Apidya online
Game Description
Apidya is a shoot 'em up game developed by the German studio Kaiko and published by Play Byte in 1992 for the Amiga. It was the second game created by Kaiko. The game transports players to a world full of dangers, where they embody a bee fighting against an invasion of enemy insects and trying to save its wife.
Storyline
The game tells the story of Ikuro, whose wife Yuri was poisoned by Hexaae, the evil master of black magic. Ikuro uses magic to transform into a deadly bee and vows to find an antidote for Yuri and take revenge on Hexaae.
Gameplay
The player controls a bee capable of firing multiple shots that can damage or destroy enemy targets. The game utilizes a power-up bar system, pioneered by Gradius. Destroyed enemies sometimes leave behind power-ups in the form of red-yellow flowers. The player can collect these flowers and activate new weapons and upgrades.
The game consists of five themed levels: meadow, pond, sewer full of mutated enemies, bio-technological machinery, and the final level where the player must face five end bosses.
Trivia
Apidya was developed by a three-person team over two years. The team struggled with financial problems throughout the game's development. To raise the necessary funds, the developers had to create several quick games that they sold to magazines.
