Game Description

North & South is a unique and exciting turn-based strategy game that transports players to the times of the American Civil War in a rather humorous style. Players take on the role of a Union or Confederate commander and lead their armies through a series of battles and campaigns.

Gameplay

North & South features a strategic map of the USA seen from "above" divided into states and territories, with military units moving across them. In each state that has a railway station, there is a fort, the capture of which leads to taking over the entire state. Otherwise, capturing a state is just a matter of moving, unless there is another army in the state - then a real-time battle ensues. The outcome of the battle then depends mainly on our dexterity skills. The game also features an optional autobattle mechanism - the chances of each side are calculated and the outcome is determined automatically.

Armies in North & South can be reinforced in two ways. By enabling an option in the main menu, the player controlling the state of North Carolina receives periodic support by ship. Additionally, the railroad generates money, which in turn generates soldiers. By moving their military units, players can expand to the west or east into unoccupied territory.
