Contra 4 DS

Game Description

Contra 4 is a 2D action game released by Konami Digital Entertainment in the United States and developed by WayForward Technologies. It is the eleventh installment in the Contra series and was released in North America on November 13, 2007, for the Nintendo DS. This game is a direct sequel to Contra III: The Alien Wars from 1992 on the Super NES, celebrating the series' 20th anniversary. It was the first Contra game released on a portable platform since Operation C in 1991 on the Game Boy.

Gameplay

The gameplay is based on the same mechanics as older Contra installments, ignoring many mechanics introduced in later games and returning to the old method of collecting upgrade icons to obtain new weapons. The controls are similar to Contra III, including the ability to hold two weapons in the player's inventory. The action view extends across both screens of the Nintendo DS system, and a grappling hook can be used by the player character to latch onto railings, allowing the player character to move from one screen to another. Similar to the arcade version of Super Contra, the player can pick up the same power-up twice, receiving an upgraded version of the same weapon. The player can also discard the power-up, allowing them to try out a new weapon without losing the previous one.

Plot

The game's plot unfolds two years after the events of Contra III: The Alien Wars. After defeating Red Falcon, a new unit called "Black Viper" begins to attack the human race. Bill Rizer and Lance Bean join Mad Dog and Scorpion as they return to the fictional Galuga archipelago off New Zealand (the setting of the original arcade/NES Contra) on a "final" strike mission.

Higher Difficulty Level

Contra 4 is known for its exceptionally high difficulty level. Players must be prepared for multiple challenges, deaths, and retries before mastering each level. It's a game for those who enjoy challenges and aren't afraid to repeat levels to achieve success.

Graphics

The game Contra 4 maintains the classic pixelated graphic style that was characteristic of previous installments in the series. However, on the Nintendo DS, it was possible to introduce 3D effects, giving the game a modern look without losing its roots.
