Game Description

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is a platform game for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), based on the movie and animated series of the same name. In the game, you play as a boy named Chad Finletter, who must save the city from an invasion of killer tomatoes.

Plot

The main character of the game Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is Chad Finletter, a young boy who has the task of stopping the evil scientist Dr. Putrid T. Gangreen from releasing the Tomato of Doom. During his journey, he must fight legions of mutant tomatoes, although it's a task he'll undertake alone, as the citizens of San Zucchini are too scared of the mutated tomatoes to help him.

Gameplay

Similar to other platform games of its time, the main way to kill enemies is by jumping on them, in this case squashing them or tearing them into smaller tomatoes. The game features several bosses to defeat, including Zoltan, Beefstake, Mummato, Fang, Ketchuck, and Tomacho.

The game was noted as being very difficult, as you often have 3-6 tomatoes chasing you, a tomato bat dropping on you (yes, there are tomato bats in this game) and tricky platforming sections.

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes on NES stands out for its humorous approach to the subject matter and comic book styling. The characters and enemies are cartoonish yet manage to evoke a kind of unease and dread, giving the game a distinctive look.
