City Connection online
Game Description
City Connection is an arcade game created by Jaleco, originally released in 1985 for arcade machines, and later ported to the NES console in 1988. The game stands out with its unique gameplay approach, focusing on painting streets with different colors while simultaneously avoiding obstacles. City Connection offers simple yet addictive entertainment for retro gaming enthusiasts.
The game is inspired by maze chase games such as Pac-Man (1980) and Crush Roller (1981).
Game Plot
In City Connection, the player controls Clarice, a teenage girl with blue hair, who travels the world in search of the perfect man. The player traverses various locations around the world, attempting to paint all the streets while avoiding police chases and other dangers along the way.
Gameplay
The gameplay in City Connection focuses on painting streets white by moving left and right across the board. The player controls Clarice's blue car, with the goal of reaching all street sections by painting them, while simultaneously avoiding obstacles, police chases, and cats blocking the way. The player can also jump, which helps avoid dangers and allows for jumping to other road segments. After completing a level, we move to the next location on the world map.
Clarice goes through twelve stages, which take place in well-known locations worldwide, including New York, London, India, and Japan.
Clarice can collect and throw oil cans at police cars and traffic vehicles to temporarily stun them; hitting them while stunned will push them off the board. Cats are immune to oil cans and cannot be killed by any means. If the player stays on the same stage for too long, spikes emerge from the ground and immediately kill them. Sometimes a red balloon may appear on the stage, and collecting three of them will transport the player to a new area and grant them extra points.
Trivia
Clarice is one of the first female protagonists in a console game. Jaleco released a sequel, City Connection Rocket, for Japanese mobile phones in 2004.
