Game Description

Final Mission, also known as "S.C.A.T.: Special Cybernetic Attack Team" in Japan and "Action in New York" in Europe, is a science fiction shoot-'em-up game produced by Natsume for the NES.

Plot

In the year 2029, the army of alien invaders led by Vile Malmorta installed the "Astrotube," connecting the ruins of New York with their space station. A team of soldiers, partially human, partially robotic, known as the Special Cybernetic Attack Team, or "SCAT," was assembled to counter the invasion.

Gameplay

In Final Mission, you can play with 2 players simultaneously. In single-player mode, you can choose between a soldier named Arnold and a woman named Sigourney, while in two-player mode, player 1 controls Arnold, and player 2 controls Sigourney. There are no differences in skills between the two characters.

As Arnold or Sigourney, the player flies through the air, shooting enemies with their rifle, while the screen automatically scrolls horizontally or vertically to the end of each stage. Although the player character can fly in eight directions, they can only shoot left or right. However, the player is surrounded by two satellite modules that shoot enemies at the same time the player fires their weapon.

Release and Later Versions

The game was released in Japan in 1990, in North America in 1991, and in the PAL region in 1992. It was later re-released on the Virtual Console in the PAL region on February 4, 2011, and in North America on February 7 on the Wii, and in the PAL region on December 4, 2014, on the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. The game was released on the Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo Switch Online service on September 23, 2020.
