Game Description

Mr. Gimmick is one of the most unique and acclaimed platform games on the NES console. The game was released by Sunsoft in 1992 and gained recognition for its innovative gameplay, physics, refined difficulty level, and unique artistic style. Mr. Gimmick is an extraordinary journey full of colors, challenges, and creativity.

To compete with the quality of games on the then-new SNES, director Tomomi Sakai required a large team and used innovative techniques to create high-quality graphics and sound.

Game Plot

The game tells the story of a small green yōkai named Yumetaro, who was mistakenly given as a toy to a young girl. After the girl's toys come to life and kidnap her to another dimension, Yumetaro sets out to rescue her. The main goal is to pass through various levels, defeat enemies, and collect points. Yumetaro can generate and shoot stars at enemies.

Gameplay

Mr. Gimmick offers classic platform game gameplay but enriched with unique elements. The player must jump between platforms, avoid enemies, and solve puzzles using special abilities. What sets the game apart from others is the fact that Mr. Gimmick has an incredibly flexible jump, which adds challenge to navigating the levels.

Newer Releases of the Game

The game was re-released in Japan in 2002 on PlayStation, and a remake created by exA-Arcadia was released on the exA-Arcadia arcade system at the end of 2020. The game's remaster was released on July 6, 2023, on Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
