Game Description

The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles is an adventure action game released in 1993 and based on the 90s TV series of the same name. Players have access to various types of weapons such as dynamite, daggers, grenades, and pistols, as well as Indiana's characteristic whip.

Gameplay

In the game, we control the character of young Indiana Jones. The game starts only with a whip, which is replaced/upgraded by subsequently found weapons. Weapons, gold, and other items are obtained by destroying crates. They also serve as Indiana's health points: every time he is hit by an enemy, he loses one last item. If Indiana has no more items, he must fight with fists and will die if hit again. Most of the time we spend walking, fighting, jumping on platforms, avoiding traps and enemy fire but we'll also drive a tank for a while and fly a biplane. The game consists of eight levels played in three locations: Mexico (two levels), France (two levels), and Germany (four levels). Early levels of the game are based on TV series episodes, while later ones are already a story written for the game.

Plot and Gameplay

The plot of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles tells the story of young Indiana Jones, who arrives in Mexico for vacation, during the ongoing civil war. Indiana frees peasants captured by General Pancho Villa and his bandits, who are trying to take control. After defeating Villa in battle, Indiana learns about a person known as Claw, who stole an Egyptian artifact called the Jackal. Indiana follows Claw through an abandoned silver mine. Claw uses explosive sticks of dynamite to fight Indiana, who uses falling stones to defeat Claw. Then Indiana goes by boat to Europe and enlists in the fighting on the front lines of World War I. Indiana traverses dangerous battlefields, fights a large tank, and then learns about a long-range artillery piece codenamed Big Bertha. Indiana climbs a high mountain to locate and destroy Big Bertha in battle. Indiana is promoted to the rank of captain and is sent to Germany to stop a German commander who plans to use chemical gas to kill allied forces and enslave Europeans. Indiana boards an enemy train and fights his way through railway cars before finally engaging in battle with the engineer leading the train. An allied fighter plane flies in to pick up Indiana. Indiana shoots down a group of enemy fighter pilots, and then battles the Red Baron in his Fokker triplane.
