Sonic 3D Blast
Game Description
Sonic 3D Blast, also known as Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island, is an interesting take on the adventures of the Blue Blur, experimenting with a three-dimensional style of gameplay. While it may not live up to some of the series' classics, it still offers unique experiences related to freeing Flickies and defeating Dr. Robotnik. Instead of traditional horizontal levels, the player explores three-dimensional levels, collecting Flickies - small birds - and fighting Dr. Robotnik's robots (Dr. Eggman). The game is visually impressive, with beautiful CGI graphics and excellent animation. The levels are colorful and varied, and boss fights are great fun. Unfortunately, the gameplay can become repetitive, and the isometric perspective makes some jumps difficult to execute, which complicates gameplay.
Plot
The game's plot focuses on Dr. Robotnik kidnapping the Flickies - magical birds inhabiting Sonic's island. Sonic sets out to the island to free the birds and thwart the Doctor's nefarious plans.
Gameplay
The game offers a mix of 2D and 3D, where most of the action takes place on two-dimensional horizontal levels, but playing as Sonic, you can explore space in three dimensions. The goal is to collect Flickies, which are hidden in colorful cages and deliver them to special places to release them. Additionally, you must face robots and enemies to keep the Flickies safe.
Trivia
Sonic 3D Blast is often seen as an unusual title in the Sonic series, but it has its place in video game history as an experiment with a three-dimensional style of gameplay. While not as universally acclaimed as some other titles in the series, it still delivers unforgettable moments of entertainment for Sonic the Hedgehog fans. It's worth noting that an enhanced graphical version for the Sega Saturn was released in 1997, which is worth checking out!
