Sonic Spinball
Game Description
Sonic Spinball is an unusual version of Sonic's adventures that combines pinball gameplay with platforming. Players take on the role of Sonic, who must confront Dr. Robotnik and rescue captive animals, ultimately defeating the evil doctor. Sonic Spinball, also known as Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball, is a pinball game developed by the Sega Technical Institute and released by Sega in 1993.
Gameplay
The game focuses on physics-based pinball gameplay. Sonic is placed on a giant, spinning pinball machine, where players must use flippers to bounce Sonic and control his movement across the board. The goal is to collect rings, animals, and avoid obstacles and enemies. The game features four levels full of flippers; we must collect all the Emeralds, and at the end of each level, we'll encounter a boss.
Summary
"Sonic Spinball" is an unconventional but enjoyable game that combines two different genres - pinball and platforming. If you're a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog and enjoy unique challenges, it's worth giving this game a try.
Trivia
Sonic Spinball was developed by the American staff of Sega Technical Institute, as the Japanese staff was busy developing Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles. When Sega's management realized that Sonic 3 wouldn't be completed in time for the 1993 holiday shopping season, they commissioned another Sonic game. After rushed two-month development, Sonic Spinball was released on the Sega Genesis in November 1993, and on the Game Gear and Master System in 1994.
