Game Description

World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald is a platform game released on Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. Players take on the roles of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, entering a magical world full of adventures, puzzles, and dangers. The game is part of Sega’s Illusion series.

Plot

During preparations for a magic show, Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck discover a magical box. It turns out to belong to an evil magician (Pete), who sends Mickey and Donald to a magical world. Mickey and Donald must now cooperate to find their way back home.

Gameplay

Players can play World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald solo as Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck, or cooperatively with another player, using the same pool of lives. Mickey and Donald can run, jump, or attack by waving their magic capes. Enemies defeated this way turn into doves, cards, or other harmless objects, depending on the enemy. After defeating a boss on each level, we learn a new magic that allows the pair to progress to the next level; for example, flying on a magic carpet or swimming underwater in an air bubble.

The gameplay in World of Illusion significantly differs depending on the chosen characters. For example, Mickey can squeeze through certain cracks, while Donald must find another way, leading him to completely different kingdoms. When two people play, players can stand on each other's shoulders and help each other with ropes, and Mickey can pull Donald through cracks that he cannot pass due to his (of course, very stiff) tail feathers.

World of Illusion consists of five main stages named 'Enchanted Forest', 'Among the Clouds', 'Underwater Adventure', 'The Library', and 'The Magic Box'. Within these five stages, there are also three sets of sub-stages (some of them are optional), which are available only when playing as Mickey or Donald in single-player mode, or in two-player mode.
