Game Description

Spanky's Quest on SNES is an unusual and creative platform game released by Natsume. The game stands out with its unique approach to gameplay, colorful graphics, and original mechanics, making it an interesting proposition for genre enthusiasts.

Plot

In the game, the player controls a monkey named Spanky, who must defeat the evil witch Morticia. Morticia has cast a spell that turned all the fruits in the kingdom of Mopoland into monsters. Spanky must defeat Morticia and find a way out of the tower where he is trapped. Along the way, Spanky must confront Morticia's minions, who take the form of apple, pineapple, watermelon, peach, and grape.

Gameplay

The gameplay in Spanky's Quest is a mix of platforming and arcade action elements. The player navigates through levels, trying to defeat enemies, collect fruits, and solve puzzles. Spanky's main weapon is rubber balls that he can throw at enemies. The game offers various themed levels and numerous bosses that pose a challenge to the player's skills.

The game consists of six levels. In each level, the player must collect a certain number of keys to open the exit and progress to the next level. Keys can be found everywhere; some are in plain sight, while others drop from enemies.

Spanky attacks by throwing a small purple bubble. He can then bounce the bubble on his head. Each time he bounces the bubble, it grows and changes color. The bubble can then be popped, depending on the size and color of the bubble, different types of sports balls will fly out of the bubble, destroying enemies touched by the balls. For example, a purple bubble will release a baseball, and the largest orange bubble will release several basketballs.

The game is known for its very optimistic jazz soundtrack by Kiyohiro Sada, as well as its very relaxing gameplay. On May 26, 2021, the Super Nintendo version of the game was ported to the Nintendo Switch for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
