Game Description

Super Star Wars is one of the first games in the series set in the Star Wars universe. The game was created by LucasArts and is part of the Super Star Wars trilogy, which also includes Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

Player assumes the role of Luke Skywalker and embarks on an extraordinary journey through the events of the first Star Wars movie. The gameplay is dynamic and offers various levels where the player must face enemies, collect power-ups, and solve puzzles. Players will have the opportunity to explore various planets, battle powerful bosses, and pilot vehicles such as the X-wing Fighter or Landspeeder.

Super Star Wars features excellent graphics that were impressive at the time of the game's release on the SNES. It closely resembles the look and atmosphere of the original movie. The soundtrack is also delightful, featuring iconic musical motifs known from the films.

During gameplay, players can acquire various types of weapons and abilities, allowing them to customize their play style to their own preferences. Enemies are diverse, ranging from Imperial Stormtroopers to dangerous bosses like Sarlacc or Darth Vader.

Differences Between the Game and the Film

The game generally follows the storyline of the Star Wars film, although certain changes have been made to adapt the story to action gameplay. For example, instead of simply purchasing C-3PO and R2-D2 from the Jawas, Luke Skywalker must climb to the top of a Jawa sandcrawler, jumping from a series of moving conveyor belts. Short intermission scenes between levels present a condensed version of the film's story through text. Later stages allow the player to control smuggler and Han Solo or Chewbacca the Wookiee. The game also includes several vehicle-based levels where the player takes control of an X-Wing or landspeeder. Most levels consist of running and shooting as well as platforming gameplay, with several different upgrades available for the standard blaster weapon. Luke can also wield a lightsaber after obtaining it from Obi-Wan Kenobi. At the end of the game, players reenact Luke's Death Star trench run to destroy the Death Star, and Darth Vader confronts the player in his TIE Advanced x1.

Super Star Wars is a challenge for players as the levels are demanding, and the enemies can be aggressive. However, the game offers unforgettable experiences and the opportunity to embody one of the favorite characters of the iconic film saga.
