Life Force
Game Description
Life Force is a shoot 'em up game released by Konami for the NES. Also known as "Salamander" in Japan, the game offers intense space battles, where the player controls a powerful spaceship, attempting to defeat an alien invasion and destroy the source of evil.
Gameplay
In Life Force, the player controls the Vic Viper spacecraft, while the second player controls the new spacecraft, Lord British, fighting waves of enemies and powerful bosses across various levels. The game stands out for its unique level structure, where players find themselves in traditional outer space settings at times and inside alien organisms or space bases at others. Throughout the game, players collect power-ups that increase firepower, provide new weapons, and grant extra lives.
The game consists of six stages - some with a side-view, others with a top-down view. Players can continue from where they died rather than returning to a previously defined checkpoint, which is a tradition in the Gradius series.
Life Force introduced a simplified power-up system, which involves collecting capsules left behind by some enemy units. Unlike other games in the Gradius series, there is no power-up selection bar here.
