Game Description
Yoshi's Story is a charming platform game created by Nintendo in 1997, which is a continuation of the classic game SMW 2: Yoshi's Island. Playing as one of the 6 colorful, adorable Yoshis, your task is to save the Happy Tree Island from the clutches of the malicious Baby Bowser.
The game stands out with its extremely colorful and candy-like graphics and friendly, childlike style. The game's worlds are full of warm, cheerful colors and cute characters. It's the perfect game for both younger players and those who appreciate charming visual aesthetics.
During gameplay, players traverse various levels, collecting fruits and solving puzzles. Each of the Yoshis has unique abilities, adding depth to the gameplay. You can both choose which Yoshi to control and adapt your strategy to the unique abilities of each character.
The goal of the game is to eat fruits and collect pages of the book, which will help unlock subsequent levels. You also need to avoid enemies and overcome obstacles to reach Baby Bowser and defeat him.
Plot
The action of Yoshi's Story takes place in a world turned into a pop-up book by Baby Bowser, who stole the Super Happy Tree. Only the Yoshis, who were not affected by this curse, can do something about it. The game world is presented using vibrant, pre-rendered 3D graphics, illustrating worlds made of various materials such as cardboard, fabric, plastic, and wood.
Gameplay
In Yoshi's Story, players have two game modes to choose from: Story Mode and Trial Mode. In each of them, the goal is to eat 30 fruits¹. These fruits can be found in each stage of the game, lying around, floating in bubbles, or carried by some enemies. The puzzle elements of the game encourage the player to use different strategies to achieve a high score. For example, the player earns more points for eating the same type of fruit in a row, and even more if the fruit is a favorite or lucky fruit.
Yoshi's Story received mixed reviews from critics. Although its artistic style, audio, and graphics were praised, the difficulty level was considered too low.
Trivia
This is the first platform game in the Yoshi series that was not produced or directed by Shigeru Miyamoto, although he contributed ideas to its design.
